Camera to PDF

Privacy

Your documents stay in your browser. Advertising still sees the page.

Those are two different things and it is worth separating them. This page explains each, in that order, and ends with how to opt out of the second.

Documents you scan

Your photographs and your PDF are not transmitted. Not to us, not to anyone.

The reason is structural rather than a promise. This site has no endpoint that accepts an image or a document. When you capture a page, the camera stream is read into a canvas in your browser tab, the page is compressed in memory, and the PDF is assembled in the tab and handed to your browser as a download. At no point does any of it enter the network stack.

Specifically:

You can check this rather than take our word for it. Open your browser's developer tools, go to the network panel, and scan a page. You will see this site's own files load, and you will see nothing else.

The one thing your device does send is the PDF, when you download it, and that goes from your tab to your device's storage. That is your download, not ours.

Advertising

This site is free and funded by display advertising from Google AdSense. That has consequences, and pretending otherwise would make this page worthless.

Google's advertising code is loaded when the page opens. It can read the page you are on, the page address and your IP address, and it sets cookies in your browser. Where you are in the world affects which ads you are eligible to be shown.

What it does not do is receive your photographs or your generated PDF. Your documents are never visible to the advertising code, because they are never sent anywhere.

So the accurate statement is: your document never leaves your device, while the page you view it on is visible to an advertising network. Both halves are true and you should hold us to each of them.

Analytics

This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless. It records aggregated page counts and performance measurements so we know which pages are used. It does not build a profile of you across sites, and it does not set an identifier cookie.

Consent

Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are shown a consent notice before personalised advertising is served, provided by Google's certified consent platform. Choosing "reject" still leaves the page fully usable, including the scanner.

We would rather show you a notice than serve you personalised advertising without asking.
